Monster of the Day #1384

  • Beckoning Chasm

    “Never-ending stoooooreeee….”

  • Gamera977

‘Eye of the tiger!!! Dunt,..dunt… dunt!.’

  • Eric Hinkle

    “Good kitty… Good kitty…”

  • bgbear_rnh

It was kind of a cat fish.

This scene reminds you a big difference between Chinese and American films. [Maybe spoiler although it happens way at the beginning of the film].
The lady in the water lost her husband and her little 3 yo daughter to the demon. I can never imagine an American film daring to have a child swallowed whole by a monster and not rescued.

So is this ‘Journey to the West’ too?

  • Eric Hinkle

    What about ‘Jaws” or ‘Alligator’?

  • bgbear_rnh

You are right, “Jaws” certainly an exception, but that was 40 years ago. Not as common as the Chinese using kids in death scenes.

Funny. Not that long I was watching a Gene Autry film and they had a 12 yo blown to bits by the bad guy. Seemed really shocking especially since they were basically kids films. Also odd was that everyone was happily singing in the end and seemed to have forgotten about little Jimmy.

  • bgbear_rnh

    Yes.

  • zombiewhacker

Mimic. Kiddie fatality rate for that movie: 66.6%. (And one of the rare times watching a movie that I wished the monsters had been batting 1.000.)

  • bgbear_rnh

I got to get out more. Checking. . .aha, Mexican director and writer. ;-)

  • zombiewhacker

Yeah… but then he never worked in Hollywood again. ;)

The kids were that charming, huh? Reminds me of the precious little poppet in DAY OF THE ANIMALS, which I recently re-watched on YouTube. She was mostly there to be pitied and to try and look horrified when her protector gets eaten by rattlesnakes and a mad dog. It looked more to me like she had gas. At least Girdler had the sense to only put her in a few scenes.
