Monster of the Day #1361

“Bueller…Bueller…Anyone…”

  • Beckoning Chasm

I actually remember this one–I think it might have been part of the first episode I ever saw.

  • Gamera977

I hope he/she/it is going to present a pronunciation guide to Mythos critters.

  • Aw, man, why’d I get stuck with Professor Scaroth again? His lessons are fine, but every now and again he goes into a trance screaming, “We are Scaroth!” And what’s up withhis obsession with the Mona Lisa?

  • The Rev.

This was one of the couple I’ve seen; it was a neat idea, although I’d have preferred if this had been something I recognized from Lovecraft instead of a bunch of slimy seaweed with an eyeball.

  • bgbear_rnh

    he slimed me

  • Gamera977

In this case I’ll admit I’m not sure which restroom he/she/it should be using…

  • Flangepart

Only horror gig Carl Reiner ever did, methinks. NIGHT GALLERY, totally.

  • Eric Hinkle

May I please know what show was this from, and was this a comic or horror episode?

  • To answer you question in order, Night Gallery, and yes. Which sounds like I’m being less than helpful, but that’s not the case.

Here’s the run down. The precise episode was Season 2 Episode 8, which includes two serious stories (The Diary and The Big Surprise) and two “funny” stories (A Matter of Semantics and Professor Peabody’s Last Lecture). The episode goes serious, “funny”, serious, “funny” in the order I’ve listed them, with the last one (Professor Peabody) being today’s subject.

  • David Charney

With what’s been on the news lately, that’s really a lot scarier than this.

  • Eric Hinkle

Thanks. I now rather wish I’d seen at least the story this scene came from, as it sounds highly bizarre.

  • Acethepug

Well, this and the last made me take the plunge — Night Gallery dvds en route to the acethepug home :)

  • Ken_Begg

To be fair, Lovecraft was *much* more culturally obscure back then, so even doing the bit was sort of a nod to hardcore horror fans.

  • Ken_Begg

I finally bit the bullet and bought the complete runs of Have Gun Will Travel and Untouchables this week, adding to my vast store of unwatched series sets.

  • Acethepug

Oh, you’re in for a treat with the former (got it for my Dad a few years back), but can’t speak to the latter.

Enjoy! (and I know, I have a huge pile of unwatched dvds and unread books, too)

  • Beckoning Chasm

A professor is lecturing his students on the various Elder Gods, while the students warn him that even saying their names is inviting trouble. He continues, storm clouds gather outside, etc…he joins the “trans” community.

  • The Rev.

That is a good point. Kind of like the mention in Dark Intruder.

  • zombiewhacker

Sigmund, you’re a rotten sea monster.

  • My first thought was that this was face-melting Hitler from “The Tomorrow People”. That eyeball rolling down his face about did me in as a kid. This guy would have had the same effect, I suspect.
