Fantastic DVD deals at Amazon…

I’ve been trying to cut down on my DVD buying, but had to pick up the 2nd volume of the W.C. Fields Comedy Collection.  Listed at about $60, it was previously available for around $45 from various venders, plus tax and or shipping.

However, Amazon is now selling it for $28.49, with no tax and free shipping to boot.

And there’s a lot more where that came from (remember, again, there is no tax or shipping fees to be added to these prices):

The big magilla might be The Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection, offering his 15 greatest films–Psycho / Vertigo / Rear Window / The Birds / Shadow of a Doubt / Family Plot / Frenzy / The Man Who Knew Too Much / Marnie / Rope / Saboteur / Topaz / Torn Curtain / The Trouble with Harry–for a mere $58. (The set retails for $120.)  That’s right, each movie is under four bucks each.

The Marx Brothers Silver Screen Collection (The Cocoanuts / Animal Crackers / Monkey Business / Horse Feathers / Duck Soup), listed for $60, sold for $28.50.  Certainly worth is for Duck Soup and Horse Feathers alone.  Plus a sixth disc of extras.

Preston Sturges – The Filmmaker Collection (Sullivan’s Travels/The Lady Eve/The Palm Beach Story/Hail the Conquering Hero/The Great McGinty/Christmas in July/The Great Moment)  List price $60, sale price $28.50

W.C. Fields Comedy Collection (The Bank Dick / My Little Chickadee / You Can’t Cheat an Honest Man / It’s a Gift / International House)  $28.50.

W.C. Fields Comedy Collection, Vol. 2 (The Man on the Flying Trapeze / Never Give A Sucker An Even Break / You’re Telling Me! / The Old Fashioned Way / Poppy)  $28.50.

The Boris Karloff Collection (Tower of London / The Black Castle / The Climax / The Strange Door / Night Key)   $15.00, half price.

The James Stewart Hollywood Legend Collection (Vertigo / Rear Window / Harvey / Winchester ’73 / Destry Rides Again)  $28.50.

MANY OTHER GREAT SETS ARE AVAILABLE, AND DETAILED HERE.

Don’t forget that Christmas is fast approaching.  Any of these sets would be a great gift for any movie buff.  Let me put it this way, of the sets listed above, I own almost all of them.  (And would buy the Hitchcock, but I already own a lot of the titles individually.)

NOTE:  Some of the sets have “best prices” listed, from Amazon affiliated sellers, that appear cheaper than Amazon’s direct new product price.   Make sure they are sufficiently cheaper, though, to outset the shipping charges they will add and which Amazon doesn’t.  Also, the Boris Karloff set by itself will not get Amazon’s free shipping, since it’s under their $25 minimum for that perk.

  • Hmm, what about a Hitchcock rip-off/remake set? Disturbia, Gus Van Sant’s Psycho, others that the Ludovico technique keeps me from remembering.

  • BigG — Or you could just grab a bunch of Brian DePalma films…
