Monster of the Day #1121

Flame toad!

  • Flangepart

“Humans light farts? I light belches! Hah, I slay you…”

  • Man, to see him in battle with the toad from Magic Serpent!

  • Gamera977

Oh gawd the toad just snarfed down a dozen ghost chili peppers- RUN!

  • Gamera977

    Or a fire breathing turtle… ;)

  • SteveWD

Someone should make a lighter based on this guy.

  • bgbear_rnh

ALL UNAUTHORIZED VEHICLES WILL BE FLAME TOAD

  • The Rev.

There he is, in all his glory! All hail the Fire Toad!
For all the reasons I love Insta-Exploding Fire Toad, my biggest was his willingness to give us an example of the biggest cinematic car cliche…in a movie that didn’t have cars.

  • Gamera977

So he’s the Ford Pinto of the animal world?

  • Gamera977

Pentagon bio-weapons project XFT1046291ZT the Napalm Toad ended in a massive failure when a smoking crew member accidentally detonated one of the toads destroying it and the C-130 that was transporting them to Vietnam.

  • Flangepart

Or Cinema world. How many wee beasties explode when you hit ’em hard enough? There be a list?

  • Eric Hinkle

Ah, the exploding Flame Toad. He was only slightly more amazing than Peter Cushing’s ability to whip up a longbow and arrows strong enough to kill this poor monster in roughly five seconds.

  • The Rev.

Well, to be fair, he took a harder bump than that Pinto did.
Not from the arrow, but when he…well, let’s just say you could learn more about it in the “cliff” notes for the movie.

  • Gamera977

Andrew Borntreger has a clip of the death of the IEFT over on his site at Badmovies.

  • Rock Baker

I always figured this beastie was based on a dinosaur called an Eryops (sp?).

  • The Rev.

I could see that, actually. Still, (Insta-Exploding) Fire Toad just rolls off the tongue…

  • silverwheel

    Hypnotoad gets mad.

  • bgbear_rnh

Coincidence, a new species of the killer salamanders (eryops) was just discovered in Portugal.

  • Gamera977

Ok, I finally went out and bought the Blu-Ray to this, and it is glorious as is the whole film!

I think Caroline refered to it as the Fire Beastie though…
