Monster of the Day #1097

I’m sure I have a copy of this floating around somewhere, but I’ve never seen it. I should dig that out.

THE MANSTER. Nicely done flick, all things considered.

    want see fify shades gra?

  • The Rev.

Unless I’m mistaken, this is Half-Human, Toho’s yeti flick.
I have not seen it. After Lyz and Will tag-teamed this, I’m resigned to waiting until I can get ahold of the original version.
Man, this still is pretty bad, as far as trying to make it look like the creature is holding her. Yikes.

But for Cryptozoologists the photo would be indisputable proof!

  • Rock Baker

Yeah, this is HALF HUMAN. I do dig THE MANSTER, though. A much better film than it’s obscurity would imply.

I’d love to see this one, being a long-time cryptid/Bigfoot/Yeti fan. But I understand it’s no longer available due to some rather nasty depictions of the Ainu in it? Which kind of surprises me given that I understood that Japan didn’t much care about ‘offending’ people, especially non-Japanese (which the Ainu are considered to be).

  • Rock Baker

    Yeah, it’s a big gyp.

  • Eric Hinkle

What, the movie itself is no good, or the reason for not showing it is no good?

  • Rock Baker

The reason it’s been effectively banned. That’s just insane. The film itself is rather interesting, although I’m glad no other US distributors decided to narrate a Toho film instead of dub it.

  • zombiewhacker

Sinister Cinema is offering it on DVD. Mind you, this is the American recut of the film (with new scenes with John Carradine added).

  • Eric Hinkle

    That’s better than nothing. Thanks.
