Monster of the Day #1093

Forgot this one! It played between Frogs and Plan 9. Again, though, after Yongary there were no more monsters for the Fest’s final half.

I’ve never seen this, but have heard it’s terrible. Based on a Theodore Sturgeon story, no less–which is why I’d like to see it someday.

  • God I love this story. Never seen the movie, But Sturgeon’s a prince.

  • Flangepart

KILLDOZER…better in the story than the film. Still, the film has it’s moments. The setup was left behind, so the reason for the ‘possession’ is left up to your best guess.

  • Filming the set up from the story would have been problematic. Lots of narration, i’d fear.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, great short story. The movie is/was on YouTube, I watched about half of it and never finished it. Not really bad just a little dull versus the tightly plotted and paced story by Sturgeon.

This morning I heard about a Roomba that attacked a lady in Korea.

  • Never did like those things. Had a shifty look about them.

  • Flangepart

Had a rumble with a Roomba in her rooma.

I think Marvel Comics did an adaptation of this one, back in the 70’s or 80’s. I wonder how well it came out?

  • GalaxyJane

I thought the “dozer” part of the title was accurate. The cast is small enough that the killings have to be spread too far apart, which means that when I dropped off to sleep at one point, I woke up 20 minutes later to find the same last 3 characters alive. Which at least meant I hadn’t missed anything important I guess.

  • The Rev.

Yeah, this was a real slog. Not nearly enough killdozing, dammit. It’s worse because the set-up makes it obvious that’ll be the case; and the first victim isn’t even killdozed! What the hell?
If it hadn’t been for that Andy Hardy movie and my already knowing this thing’s reputation, this would’ve been my worst for B-Fest, I think.

  • GalaxyJane

Eh, this one was just forgettable, the Andy Hardy thing was brutal! And. Just. Would. Not. End!

  • bgbear_rnh

The robots had turned on their masters, by themselves. The ensuing chaos had led to a radiation spill far more deadly than any nuclear warfare. The world had been brought to its knees by the… robot holocaust

  • God, they grow up so soon.

  • Eric Hinkle

Let’s just say that certain liberties were taken. Killdozer could talk in best, or maybe that should be worst, Marvel monster style for one thing.

  • Eric Hinkle

I wonder, if this film was remade for, say, the SyFy Channel, how would they ‘punch it up’ for modern audiences? Would Killdozer be an Evil Military Experiment? A sex scene? What?

  • Gamera977

Killdozer getting it on with a backhoe- thanks for putting that image in my mind!

Though I’ll admit The Discovery Channel’s ‘Gold Rush’ would be more exciting if the heavy equipment turned on the mining teams!

  • Beckoning Chasm

If it was remade by the SyFy channel, it would be boring beyond description. I saw something on Amazon Instant that looked like fun, put it in the queue, and as soon as the opening credits appeared (“The SyFy Channel Presents”) I actually swore at my TV.

Watched it anyway. It was utterly forgettable.

  • Obviously, if SyFy made it, it would become Sharkdozer.
    Sharkdozer Versus Piranhacopter.

  • Ken_Begg

Now I want to see that.

  • Rodford Smith

Only saw it once, on the original airing (and well after reading the short story) but I think the setup was it was in a meteorite which crashed on the island where the story was set.
