Monster of the Day #906

Hmm, I’m starting to sense a theme here by issue #3…

  • Ericb

    Lady Terminator!

  • The Rev.

How did I never know about this comic!? It’s nothing but scuba divers versus giant monsters! I MUST HAVE IT.

  • bgbear_rnh

The Beatles had a similar problem.

  • Flangepart

Giant evil Ester Williams and her pet sea snake Yoric…sy-Fy needs this series.

  • bgbear_rnh

I am curious about whether or not the “Sea Devils” ever carry any weaponry. Might help.

  • Rock Baker

Looks like an unproduced sequel to ATRAGON in which the Mu Princess returns in the form of a giantess.

  • Wade Harrell

Betcha I can guess which one of the “daring underwater team” does NOT become bewitched…

  • Ken_Begg

Good lord, no, the snake did not come out of…well, anyway.

  • Ken_Begg

She admitted she was flattered and curious, however.

  • Wade Harrell

Ha! If this were a modern comic we would not be able to make these assumptions. No idea what year this is, but it’s gotta be pretty old if it was only 12 cents!

  • Luke Blanchard

DC experimented with the use of wash covers in the period. Wikipedia’s article on Jerry Grandenetti describes the technique. That might be the one used to produce the earlier SEA DEVILS covers.
The feature first appeared in DC’s try-out comic SHOWCASE, in #27-#29. In recent years DC has been publishing a series of large B&W reprint volumes with the umbrella title SHOWCASE PRESENTS. SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SEA DEVILS came out in 2012, and contained the SHOWCASE issues and the first 16 of the ongoing.
I’ve read several SEA DEVILS stories. I’m afraid most of these were fairly dull. The above story is the best of those I’ve seen. The giant woman is Circe, and she entrances the men.

  • Ken_Begg

Luke mentions one thing that made me laugh. Sea Devils did get a three issue tryout in Showcase, which make the blurb at the top of their self-titled comic, “IN THEIR OWN MAGAZINE AT LAST!” pretty amusing.

  • The Rev.

Man, way to deflate my hopes there.
