Monster of the Day #886

And so it begins.

“I’ll have meat for a whole year- No, two years!”

  • bgbear_rnh

I think this might have been Photoshopped.

  • Ken_Begg

Or it’s just a primitive matte shot, which would make sense.

Is that Gertie the Dinosaur ?

  • bgbear_rnh

It looks like it is singing so, it reminded me of Dinah Saur from “Beany and Cecil”

    And so what begins?

  • zombiewhacker

Double post: the first stop motion dinosaur, maybe?

  • Flangepart

Hummm…why am I thinking Prof. Challenger?

  • My Mom loves this movie. I prefer Kong myself, but it’s still good fun.

  • Rock Baker

    Oooh! Now you’re talking!

  • Rock Baker

Actually O’Brien had been perfecting his technique for years with one-reelers. THE LOST WORLD does mark the first time a dinosaur/prehistoric monster was brought back to civilization to run amok in a modern city, however.

Although the giant monster attacking a city ploy may have been seen earlier in a cartoon called Dreams of a Rare Bit Fiend.

  • Rock Baker

Well, Kong takes all the good stuff from this movie and then ramps it up several notches!

  • bgbear_rnh

Hey, professor. Is this a walnut tree? Everyone says I have the brain the size of a walnut. How big is a walnut? I need to know if I should stomp them or not.

  • True, true.

  • The Rev.

I have seen about three versions of this movie. Somehow, none of them have been the original.

    I am full of shame.

  • The Rev.

Gertie was an animated drawing, so this isn’t her. This is from The Lost World, the (as far as I know) original film version.

  • It’s worth hunting down.

  • The Rev.

The worst part is I’m pretty sure I have this on VHS somewhere, which means I bought it and never watched it.
