Monster of the Day #884

I’m thinking they had a lot of fun designing these monsters. And they have a real mythic feel, what with the mixing of different kinds of animals.

I like how the scientist is pointing out the fight. Otherwise I’m sure she never would have noticed it.

You would think that once, just once, the side characters would be doing something useful… Man, I want to see this movie!!! :-)

  • The Rev.

Okay, sometime in my life I’ve seen this one. That gorilizard there immediately sprung from the depths of my mind.

If anyone’s read these, is there any chance they’re nearly as awesome as these covers?

  • Ericb

Looks like they escaped from New York, or should I say N’Yark, and moved to San Francisco.

I don’t know, but a miniskirt doesn’t seem like very appropriate fashion for a post-apocalyptic world. You’d think she would have been able to pick up a pair of pants by this point.

  • Ken_Begg

Rev, I’m sure your local library could procure you a copy of one of the Dark Horse Archive books.

  • Ken_Begg

This is my favorite aspect of The Future, how each era of the arts views the future as an extension of itself.

  • If Godzilla and King Kong had a kid, it would be bigger than this. Much. But it might look a little like this.

  • bgbear_rnh

Noticed what looked like the Golden Gate Bridge too, I wonder if it was difficult for Samson to get that club pass TSA at the airport.

I am guessing that “flyover country” is probably OK and operating as usual. It is Chicago, NY, DC, LA, SF etc. that are post apocalyptic. Could explain the the availablity of lab coats and leggings. I also suspect the ChiComs are creating these mutants.

  • Ericb

Also, considering the new New Yorkers call their city N’Yark, sometime after the apocalypse New York must have been repopulated by people from Boston.

  • Jamie B.

Sometimes it looks like Samson is wearing a blindfold on the covers. This one looks like he is sporting an eyepatch. Which is it?

  • Eric Hinkle

Now I want to see the post-apocalyptic movie that ends with the heroes escaping the ruins of New York or LA and finding out that the rest of the country is doing just fine. “Apocalypse? What apocalypse? I thought that was normal for LA!”

  • Ericb

    Otherwise known as the 1970s

  • bgbear_rnh

    Give DeBlasio some time.

  • Flangepart

It’s the right eye, so my guess the artist thought it was his best profile?

Ewww…just envisioned Godzilla and Toho Kong gittin’ jiggy with it…ewwwww!

  • rtpoeman

The guy on the balcony looks like a realtor showing off the place: “You may not have a view of the harbor, but you do watch the fights at the Colosseum!”

  • bgbear_rnh

kinda like Donkey from “Shrek” and that dragon. EEK

  • Ericb

And she’s thinking “Damn, even post-Apocalyptic San Francisco is expensive.”

  • bgbear_rnh

Now we know who has been tipping the Smart cars over in San Francisco.

  • Sandy Petersen

I have to say that a gorilla with dinosaur legs seems like a less-capable gorilla. I mean, it obviously is not as good a climber, though perhaps it can run faster? Though presumably not as fast as a real dinosaur because of the extra upper-body mass. Just doesn’t seem to have been thought through. Like the owl-bear. that one makes no sense either. Give me a griffin or a minotaur or something that at least enhances the monstrousness.

  • bgbear_rnh

maybe it is a thermodynamic body temp control thing

  • Ken_Begg

Not really getting the tusks, either.

  • Flangepart

The tusks…the tusks…that’s not so easy to say. Of course in Alabama, the tuskaloosa, but uh, that’s intirely irrelephant to what I was saying.

  • I KNOW, RIGHT?

  • Jamie B.

Hey! Don’t go knocking the owlbear! That is my favorite monster to sick on my adventurers! ;)

  • Flangepart

Owlbear, hah? Does the name ‘Newt Forrager’ mean anything to ya? he he he…

  • sandra

The lovechild of King Kong and Godzilla has a hard time making friends.

  • Rodford Smith

Those two actually did help Samson frequently.

  • The Rev.

It could be an infant offspring…
