Monster of the Day #809

Hulk Hogan taught him that move.

  • Gamera977

    ‘Have a seat Barnabas!!!’

  • Flangepart

“In the parlor, by a werewolf, throwing a chair…”

  • bgbear_rnh

“Unleash?” Like a dog? You think that is funny? Well, I think chairs are funny and I am going to beat the guano out of you. . .

  • Ken_Begg

Am I the only one who thinks he looks more like a were-gorilla?

  • bgbear_rnh

Can’t say, all you monkeys look alike to me.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, I was thinking he has more of a ‘Planet of the Apes’ vibe there than ‘The Wolfman’ to me.

  • bgbear_rnh

True, his hair is not perfect.

  • Rock Baker

This looks like Collins is trapped in the Time Tunnel, and I second the PLANET OF THE APES vibe here too.

  • Flangepart

    Ah-Rooooo!
And, yeah, too monkey man for a dog man.

  • Eric Hinkle

    He kinda does.

Dumb question time: am I wrong or was there not at least one B&W horror movie about a were-gorilla?

  • Rodford Smith

Could you be thinking of the Raymond Burr movie _Bride of the Gorilla_?

  • Eric Hinkle

If it involves a guy turning into a gorilla, then yeah.

  • Rock Baker

You could probably also count THE APE MAN and it’s sequel, and in sorta the same vein the Captive Wild Woman series. Although not exactly supposed to be an ape-man, the young lad who had a gorilla heart transplanted into his chest in NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES did go through spells of being an ape-like monster (visually, he’s probably the closest to being a were-gorilla, since Burr transformed completely into a gorilla). BRIDE OF THE GORILLA is probably the best of this genre, which is weirdly under-explored if you think about it. I’m sure too that there were a couple of other examples I can’t recall. I mean, you’d think so, right? Maybe an Italian film or something?

  • Eric Hinkle

Wow, I didn’t know there were THAT many were-gorilla/’ape-into-man’ movies.

  • Ken_Begg

Yes, it was a pretty popular trope.

  • Rock Baker

Really, though, you’d think there’d be a lot more than there already is, wouldn’t you?
