I wanted to find a still from Port Sinister, a very obscure cheapie treasure hunting movie from 1953. At one point as the characters are exploring a cave they are assaulted by a doberman-sized crab (puppet). Sadly, the film–which honestly isn’t very good–is all but lost. I’ve seen one print of it, and it’s extremely degraded, nearly unwatchable. Oh, well.
So this image is from 1980’s Island Claw. It has swarming attacks from regular crabs and then, at they climax, they reveal this baby, a gigantic life-sized fiberglass prop. I have no idea who built it or what they did with it afterward, but damn, look at it.
The guy in its mitt is sci-fi veteran Robert Lansing, the titular 4-D Man and star of Empire of the Ants. He was also Edward Woodward’s old boss on The Equalizer TV show.
