As a proud proponent of DEI, I followed our showing of Voodoo Man with a showing of Voodoo Woman. As the keen-eyed among might note, the suit is adapted from Paul Blaisdell’s oft-used costume from The She Creature. Frankly, I found the first twenty minutes of the film a slog, as it featured low-grade noir tropes in a jungle outpost bar. All the characters were terrible people, so there wasn’t a lot to root for. However, the action eventually shifted to the jungle “lab” of Tom Conway (George Sander’s brother). He’s seeking to turn a woman into a horrifying immortal monster murder machine, but is thwarted because the native he’s experimenting on is a gentle soul and not so much into the murder thing. Luckily the evil white woman proves far better for his purposes. There are too many plot threads, but again, the last 40 minutes aren’t the worst. Some “names” in the cast; Conway, Marla English and Mike “Touch” Connors.
Another horror movie Discard Watch Party this Friday. Again, we’re going weekly in October.
