I think the artist was like, “OK, that’s great and all, really good work…but it’s missing something… Wait! What if I add a skeleton here in that black space?! Now it’s ten times better!”
And he was right.
I love these super deep colors you used to get with covers. I always associate them with the Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four issues, where the Thing and Torch were colored with those super-saturated oranges and the deep blue for the FF costumes. Those colors really work for me.
