Monster of the Day #3100

There's are a myriad of hidden gems on YouTube. Yesterday I came across a channel, Horrorwitz, that has posted an ongoing (?) series of 15 minutes videos documenting the history of Mexican Vampire Cinema (that's the search term). How cool is that?

Sometimes (a lot of the time), you just want something...goofy. And nobody does goofy horror like Mexico back in the '60s. There's a somewhat washed-out copy of World of the Vampires on YouTube, and it's exactly what you think it is, but maybe even goofier than most Mexican vampire films. Also, it features one…

Misc Viewing: The Art of Action

I thought when I saw a video or video Channel that I thought folks might enjoy, I'd mention it. If you have anything to add, please do. I recently came across The Art of Action, a YouTube channel hosted by Scott Adkins. I'm not familiar with his work, but he seems to be a…

Rather a change from yesterday, we have Bert I Gordon's best movie, for what that's worth. It's definitely kiddie fare, but it's a fun bit of sword and sorcery, and Gordon definitely isn't afraid of the monsters. The best is this gorgeous giant dragon prop. It doesn't move very well, but damn. It's available…

See that rubber sock puppet over to the left? That's one of the 'alien' monsters in Alien 2 On Earth, a (shocker!) Italian film trying to ride the coattails of a popular American blockbuster. I'll let you piece out which one. It's one of a zillion monster in a cave movies. There's a print…

"Ear...BUD! I said I wanted an Ear BUD, you moron!" Looking for a double bill partner this weekend for the just previously featured Squirm? Try William Castle's utterly nutzoid Bug. Both are available on Amazon Prime.

I assume the portmanteau movies must have started losing juice for Amicus, but in any case they tried to move to more traditional single story pictures. This is And Now the Screaming Starts, a pretty nasty ghost story if I remember correctly. Typical Amicus cast, though; Peter Cushing, Herbert Lom, Patrick Magee, Ian Ogilvy,…

Another really '70s kind of deal was the Amicus anthology films, which themselves always featured fabulous casts. Asylum is one of the lesser ones, but it's still pretty good. If one story isn't that great, wait 15 minutes and you'll get another, generally better one.

Featuring Devil's Rain yesterday (and really, that film does have an *amazing* cast) put me in a '70s frame of mind, so how about Squirm, a fun killer worm (!) flick also available on Amazon Prime. Or you can probably dig up the MST3K episode on YouTube or Netflix maybe.

GalaxyJane mentioned she'd recently watched The Devil's Rain, and it's on Amazon Prime, so why not? She thought it was a bit pokey at times despite it's short running time, but liked the amazing cast. (Of course, you have to be of a certain age to go, "Oooh, Eddie Albert!") She also mentioned Ernest…
