We've never really given Charles Band enough love on these pages, so let's pay a little homage to that fine gent, who gave us many, many hours of cheezy enjoyment in the '80s.

OK, that is not the most frightening giant ape I've ever seen.

Man, that's just a gorgeous cover. You might want to skip the plot description, though. It fails to enhance the majesty of the art. I have to get this one in first, though: "Those dammed Beaver Men!" See what I did there?  

Our first inclination is to be a smart ass and note that this is a 'harmless' herbivore. On the other hand, hippos kill more people than any other animal in Africa. On the third hand, you'd think they'd leave you alone if you left them alone, so again, it's pretty much on Turok here.

Might as well keep running with Turok. Can't go wrong there. (I like Kona a bit better, but, you know, giant bugs and megalodons. Still, this ain't chopped liver.) This, by the way, represents a lazy Sunday for Turok.

Surprisingly few Mammoth covers. I guess artists just like painting T-Rexes more. Or else they recognized that Mammoths are harder to make look menacing. I mean, clearly they would be. However, Sesame Street itself figured out that 'wooly mammoth' basically translated to 'fuzzy elephant' and built what became perhaps the most beloved second wave…
