Monster of the Day #876

Saw this over the weekend, a very fun Irish film in the mold of Tremors. I can highly recommend it as a rare, fully successful modern day monster movie.

Man, there are a TON of these terrific covers. I could seriously do Mighty Samson covers for a month straight. I mean, again, look at that thing, it's gorgeous. This is one of the weirdest. I guess we're l0oking at the product of mad science?

Issue #4 experimented and used a cover sans monster. I can only imagine there was an immediate sales dip, because it would be a loooooooooooong time, if ever, before beastie-less cover art was used again. #5 went back to basic, while also expanding the weirdness.

This is one of those "dangers of SCIENCE!" episodes. Being a Japanese show, though, the main lesson learned is that acting for ones self instead…

This is yet another neat monster from Ultra Q. It's a giant rock that is blown to pieces and reforms as this guy. (The image of him standing is an anomaly, he's trying to shake off the episode's protagonist.) This guy is also really menacing; the show's monsters ranged from evil to sympathetic, but…

As noted yesterday, Turtle Boy goes to the underwater kingdom of a wee girl fairy princess (or something). She has her own magic pet, who looks vaguely familiar somehow. Note the girl provides a sense of scale for the beastie. Neat!
