Anyone else watch last night's episode? Still kinda stunned to see Tori, Kari, and Grant get the axe. I just looked at Discovery's website and nothing about why. One commentator speculated it was a cost-cutting measure, no idea here. Did seem extra strange they didn't even get to say goodbye themselves.

My suspicion is that they *may* be getting spun off into a show of their own as an extra revenue stream for Discovery, but no telling. My kids are really bummed at the news.

I kinda wondered if they were getting a spin-off too. But having Adam and Jamie announce that they're leaving and not even giving them a chance to say goodbye makes me wonder if they demanded more money and got the boot. Well, time will tell.

I definitely has a "jump the shark feel" to it.

Lately, the show has been getting gimmicky. Two shows were based on other popular television shows "Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad." It's bad sign when your sponging off of other popular television shows. It mean you're trying to lure other show's fans to your show.

The article below seems to insinuate that the shows best days are behind it and that their release was a cost cutting measure.

That seems to be S.O.P for Discovery channel these days. They fired Dave Canterbury for lying about his past. Cody Lundin for going bonkers in the field. Bear Grylls for just the hell of it.

Times are a changin over there.

Amen to that.

I hear they are also outright fabricating episodes. The more notorious was the Megladon show were they alleged to have had a close encounter with...something. If that shark was any faker it would be leaping out of the water roaring in pain while a boat rammed it.

Yeah, the show has been going downhill for years. Personally I thought it hit bottom the year they had an entire episode that was a cross-over with the 'Storm Chasers' TV series, an hour long ad for the 'Green Hornet' movie, and Obama asked them to bust the Archimedes mirror myth for the THIRD time.

Interesting article there Nemo, it does bring up several good points no matter if they're just speculation or truth. I used to love the series and now I'm kinda 'eh' to most of it. Not sure if it's really much worse or after ten years it's just hit concept erosion?

Can't say they're any worse than the History Channel though, other than stuff like 'Pawn Stars' and 'American Pickers' I avoid anything they call a 'documentary' since most I've seen is more of the Michael Moore BSomentary vein than anything.

Ooooooooooh, nasty!

The network is definitely on the cusp of a revolution. What they need is some good ideas. They seem to be lacking them lately.

They seem to want to do television shows that vary on the words gold, Alaska, captain, Amish and pawn. What they need is something that is totally different. Something that no one ever dreamed of doing. So who knows? Maybe one day you will have Discovery cameras at your workplace. The Common Man Chronicles.

I do watch and enjoy several of these shows but yeah some fresh ideas would be good. I mean a game show with the 'Pawn Stars' cast- huh? Who pitched that!?!

At least they did dump most of the Sasquatch and UFO shows, although I'll admit I did enjoy those in the 'what type of insanity will they come up with next episode' way.

Frankly I've been watching a lot of the 'Mysteries at the Museum' on the Travel Channel. Yeah it's sensationalized but it's actual real history- more than I've seen on the History Channel in some time.

I remember 20 years ago when The Learning Channel was actually much better than the Discovery Channel or the yet to exist History Channel. They actually had solid programming blocks of great documentaries on things like the Mongols and the Battle of the Somme. Stuff than nowadays you can't even get on Neflix much less on any modern cable channel.
