I think that the “house” in the desert was actually some sort of resort hotel; hence the huge size, uniformed staff, big pool on the roof, etc.

I had only heard Zabriskie Point referred to as a movie with “an awesome explosion” or “awesome explosions” so I’ve always thought it was an action movie. I’m glad I never rented it thinking that! Can you imagine how pissed off I’d have been?

Great review! I went on the Chicago Sun-Times site to dig up the original Roger Ebert review. I was actually surprised he gave it two stars. Now, I know that Ebert sometimes makes questionable ratings, but nothing in his review indicated that there was a single redeeming quality about the movie. I guess he was feeling merciful that day.

I take issue with talking about this music as if its ‘dated’. I’m 22 and I regularly listen to Syd Barrett and as much early psych as I can find. Its great stuff and still hasn’t been equaled as stoner music.

Ken, I disagree with your politics but I think I’d agree with your evaluation of this film (and perhaps Billy Jack. Not El Topo, though). I had to watch a very similar film for a Film Studies class and it felt like it had the same problems. It was just a materialistic as the society it was attempting to criticize – all pretty models, gorgeous cars, and beaches.

Actually, a Molotov cocktail is a mixture of petrol, water, and phosphorous. They are sealed in a bottle with a piece of rubber to make a jellied mixture. They ignite when the bottle breaks and exposes the phosphorous to the air.

They were invented during the Spanish Civil War.
